During the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic people were terrified with the consequences. Especially the rural masses could not understand how to face it. Government’s guidelines and mechanism was not sufficient. In this situation, NSS volunteers stepped forward to help them. Our NSS unit came forward to make them aware of the guidelines to save their lives.2. Objectives of the Practice
To spread awareness about COVID-19
To visit the people
To provide food aid to the needy
To use social media to save people
The college resides though in semi-urban area, most of the students come from nearby villages. During the pandemic rural people were facing a lot of problems. They could not understand the importance of social distancing, use of mask and sanitization. Many of those lost their lives. So it was our social obligation to save these people from the infection of this disease. So the NSS unit conducted activities to assist the people during this period.4. The Practice
Under the guidelines of the Principal and the Programme Officer, the NSS volunteers joined the online training of COVID-19 warriors. They were asked to work accordingly in their respective villages with the help of other students or Gram Panchayat. The volunteers visited the houses and explained with demonstration the way of sanitization, washing hands, wearing mask and keeping social distancing. They also provided guidance to Covid affected families. Some of the volunteers made the masks at home and distributed them to the needy. Some poor and needy people were provided with some food and vegetables. Apart from this, they prepared the digital banners and spread the awareness messages through social media.5. Evidence of Success
During this pandemic everyone was staying at home. None was in contact with others. In such situation, NSS volunteers as one of the warriors came forward to help the people. Their efforts were praised and people were happy to see them near to help them. People became aware of the importance of the guidelines to save their lives. For this venture, the college was given a Recognition Certificate as a member of Beat Covid Campaign initiative of Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Hyderabad.6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
Everyone was frightened to come out of the house. So there was a risk for volunteers to get infected. The help from the villagers was not sufficient. We had no enough number of masks and sanitizers to distribute.7. Notes (Optional)
As a social obligation the college and its NSS unit performed the responsibilities during this pandemic. Through NSS department, students are made socially and emotionally strong to face the challenges. Such socially oriented activities are a part of the department.
Self evaluation is an important thing to improve the quality of education. The college conducts feedback process to evaluate the standard of education in the college. The feedback from students is taken about the college and the teachers. Feedback from other stakeholders like Alumni and Parents is also taken regarding curriculum and other activities.2. Objectives of the Practice
To improve the administrative and academic quality of the college
To facilitate students with facilities
To participate the stakeholders in decision making process
To increase the quality of teaching-learning process
To create a platform for the plan of action for the next year
The college always tries to provide various academic and infrastructural facilities to students. But it wants to know their expectations. Many a time, students do not express their opinions and complaints about the college administration or about the teaching-learning shortcomings. For this, feedback mechanism becomes important to point out these things. This helps to improve the quality of teaching. This mechanism also gives an opportunity to the teachers to introspect and improve their teaching using various teaching tools. This has been the continuous process since 2006 after the first cycle of NAAC.4. The Practice
IQAC of the college prepares the questionnaires and provides those to the feedback committee. The committee plans the schedule of taking feedback from the students. Generally, at the end of the session, the feedback questionnaires are provided to the students. These questionnaires include responses about the college, teachers and overall performance. The responses are in four point scale of the performance. After their responses, those questionnaires are collected and analyzed. The outcomes are discussed in the meeting of the IQAC and proper action is taken.
Same procedure was conducted in this year also. Students were satisfied about academic and infrastructural facilities provided by the college. They were satisfied with the teachers and their teaching skills. Alumni of the college and the parents were also satisfied with the curriculum, academic and infrastructural facilities.
Students are building their capacities to speak out. Teaching-learning process is getting student centered and ICT oriented. Students, teachers, Alumni and parents are taking part in decision making. The bond of teachers, students and all stakeholders is getting strong. The plan of action is more students centric.6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
Most of the time Alumni and parents don’t take interest to come to college whenever asked for meeting. So it becomes difficult to take their feedback. The feedback committee takes proper decision to reach them for their feedback. This year, the committee circulated the feedback forms to the students to bring the feedback of their parents. The same was applied for alumni. This was done cleverly and the feedback was received successfully.7. Notes (Optional)
Ours is a small college. We try to point out the basic requirements of the students. So it is important for us to have their responses about their needs to improve the teaching-learning process. The college focusses on the alround development of the students. So, apart from teaching-learning, it concentrates on the extra-curricular activities. For this, the college has NSS, Adult Education, Women Cell, Career Guidance Cell, Sports and Cultural departments. The college provides them platforms and opportunities in this regard. Other colleges may focuss the activities related to such departments to implement best practices.
